FAQ: Carpet Tiles vs. Broadloom (Roll Carpet)

What is the difference between commercial broadloom carpet and carpet tiles?

Most of the commercial carpet lines we carry are available in both broadloom rolls and carpet tiles, giving you flexibility to choose the best format for your space.

Broadloom carpet is installed wall-to-wall, providing a smooth, continuous surface and a classic look. Carpet tiles come in squares or planks, which makes them versatile — you can mix colours, create patterns, or replace individual tiles easily if needed, without affecting the rest of the floor.

Which option is more durable for high-traffic areas?

Both our broadloom and carpet tile options are built to handle the toughest wear. With the installation methods our team uses today, you can count on your flooring to stand up to even the heaviest daily traffic.

The main difference comes down to upkeep:

  • Carpet tiles make life easier because if one spot takes a beating, you can simply swap out that tile instead of replacing a whole section.
  • Broadloom carpet gives you that smooth, seamless look, but if part of it gets damaged, it usually means repairing or replacing a larger area.

How do installation methods differ?

  • Broadloom carpet is typically installed wall-to-wall and glued down, giving you a smooth, continuous finish.
  • Carpet tiles are also glued down or installed with special adhesive tabs. With the installation methods our team uses today, the tiles lock in place securely — so they won’t shift or lift by accident — but if you ever need to change one, it’s quick and simple to replace.

Which is more cost-effective?

  • Broadloom carpet is usually the most economical option for large, open spaces because it comes in rolls and covers big areas quickly.
  • Carpet tiles can cost a little more up front, but they often save money in the long run since you can replace only the areas that get worn or stained instead of redoing the entire floor. Most of the lines we carry allow you to choose either format depending on your budget and space needs.

What about design flexibility?

  • Broadloom gives you that classic, seamless look with fewer visible joins.
  • Carpet tiles, on the other hand, give you extra design options. You can mix colours, create patterns, or define different zones within the same space — all while using the same carpet line you could also get in broadloom if you prefer.

Are both options easy to maintain?

Both hold up very well to day-to-day cleaning. The key advantage of carpet tiles is that if something spills or a section gets damaged, you can pop out that one tile and put in a fresh one.

  • With broadloom, spot-cleaning works well, but if a section is badly damaged, you’d typically need to repair or replace a larger area.
  • Choosing a carpet line available in both formats gives you the flexibility to pick the one that makes maintenance easiest for your space.

Which option is better for noise reduction?

Both broadloom and carpet tiles do an excellent job of reducing noise in busy commercial spaces — a big reason they’re chosen over hard flooring.

  • Broadloom has a slight edge when it comes to overall sound absorption because of its seamless surface.
  • Carpet tiles with a cushioned backing perform extremely well too, and most of our lines allow you to pick either format depending on your acoustic needs.

When should I choose commercial carpet vs. carpet tiles?

It really depends on what matters most for your space:

  • Broadloom carpet is the way to go if you want a classic, continuous look and a lower upfront cost in large areas.
  • Carpet tiles give you flexibility. They make it easy to replace sections down the road, the installation is faster, and often doesn’t require the whole room to be cleared. Plus, they let you get creative with patterns and colours — all using the same commercial lines we carry in broadloom if you prefer that format.
